Even if you don’t know who he is, I confirmed that everyone have heard his name once before. Or you might recognize his face unintentionally. Because the young wear a T-shirt emblazoned with a cool bearded guy and his portrait is put up in some shops. This man is Che Guevara. 

On October 9th, 1967, Che was killed by Bolivian soldiers. It means that the year 2017 is the 50th anniversary of his death. And 90 years has passed since he was born: his birthday is June 14, 1928.

50 years are not enough that his tribute has not lost its appeal. Rather it seems to become  increasingly necessary. 

Unfortunately you place importance on obtaining own profit at the expense of others. As a result the relationship among others become strained, and you seem not to accept the differences and not to treat others with respect. We fully understand the negative impacts on our society. But things are beyond control already, and we can’t get out of a vicious circle.

In order to ensure world peace, how we can contribute.
In order to build a sustainable society, what we can achieve. 
In order to make you smile, what I can do. 

Whatever action a man takes for others is worthwhile, and becomes driving force to make our world a better place, I believe.

As Che said,

Let the world change you and you can change the world.

and

The world must not only be interpreted, it must be transformed. Man ceases to be the slave and tool of his environment and converts himself into the architect of his own destiny.

We can’t spend all lifetime only pursuing cool ideals.
However the time might come to rethink his idea in order to make our world much better without weapons.

この人物が何なのか、何をしてきたのかについては全く知らない人でも、一度は彼の名を聞いたことがあるのではないかと思う。もしかしたら、意図せず既に彼がどんな風貌をしているのかすら、知っているかもしれない。彼の顔がプリントされたTシャツを知らず知らずに着ているし、バーやショップでは彼の勇ましい姿のポスターが貼られていたりする。そう、彼こそチェ・ゲバラ、その人である。

1967年10月9日、彼は志半ばにボリビアで殺された。2017年、彼の死からちょうど半世紀経過する年となる。半世紀は長いようだが、彼の功績と比べると、色褪せるにはまだまだ早いように思える。むしろ、今この時代にこそ彼の存在はますます必要性を帯びてきているようにも思える。

昨今の社会では他人を押しのけてでも自分の利益を優先しがちだ。その結果他者との関係はギスギスし、自分との違いを受け入れられないし、他人にも敬意を払えなくなってしまった。そのような行動が、自らの社会に与える負のインパクトを充分理解していても、既に物事は自らの手から離れ制御不能になってしまっているし、負のスパイラルからも抜け出せずもがき続けている。

自らの世界を平和に保つために、我々はどのようなことが出来るだろうか。

持続可能な社会を形成するために、何をなすべきか。

隣人を笑顔にするには、いったい何が必要なのだろうか。

他人を思ってなす行動は各々大切であり、価値がある。そして、我々の世界をよりよくするための原動力にもきっとなる。私はそう信じて日々過ごしていきたい。

そう、チェだって言っている。

世界が君を変えることを許すのならば、君が世界を変えられるようになる

そして

ある日の真実が、永遠の真実ではないし、言われたままに過ごすのではなく、自ら自身の運命を設計することもできるのだから。

私たちは自らの人生の全てを理想の追求のためにだけ使うことはできない。でも、自分たちの世界をよりよくするために彼のメッセージを見直してもいい時期が来ているのかもしれない。もちろん、武器を手にすることなく。
